The new films are pretty good. I actually like the old black and White's from the 40's and such.. not much with the special effects but something about them makes them very erie..

Haven't had the chance to see the movie "The Strangers" yet.
A friend of ours could only watch part of it and had to turn it off.
It scared him that much.

So, needless to say I'm looking forward to watching it.

Horror films have changed a lot though over the years. What defines a horror film now a days because most modern scary type films are just of physcotic people. If that depicts a horror then I have seen a fair few

BUT worst of all the most horrific film I have seen this year which has caused a stir I now, because the graphic content was not mentioned in any review etc is EDEN LAKE.

I left the cinema that day disgusted to think that firstly the ones causing the torture were children, the next thing that they were chavs, the third thing, the parents condoned their actions and lastly they all got away with it. It literally sickened me, and I left the cinema wanting to stab any chav that came near me. Wehn i sat down to watch the film it was middle afternoon the day after it was released so not many people came to watch it, about 40 max, by the end of the film there were only 20 of us left in there watching it, people walked out all the way through

I love a good horror as long as thats what it is - suspense filled thrillers with lots of blood and screaming are damn good! however IMO 2 hrs of gore-nography (saw, hostel, saw2 etc) does not make a good horror film because basically its sick!

My faves are I know what you did last summer, Amityville, scream, psycho (origional), the birds and the others

One to miss would have to be Ghost Ship - me and my brother worked out the entire storyline just 10 minutes into that stupid movie!

I still think that the old black and white horror films were best. could be because I grew up with them. Sure they don't have the special effects and detail but still spooky as all heck...

Can't disagree with you. Black n White just make them seem a lot creepier - a good example being War of the worlds the 30's and the 50's versions are very very very good!

OK

I am quite a muppet when it comes to choosing a good horror film to watch. And therefore have not seen many

if you were to choose your top five all time films, what would they be. I am going to start educating myself

I just bought War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise, dated 2005. Saw it on TV and liked it so much I bought it. I usually don't buy movies however this one was good for a newer flick...

I'm not a Cruise fan but "War of the Worlds" is worth the watch.

I still think the old War Of the Worlds is better. The creepy eye thing is soooooooooooooo frightening in black and white!

Somtimes thats true - new versions can be better - Amytivlle horror for example but there are certain classics that aren't so good 2nd time around like Psycho and phone booth - IMO Hitchcock classics are irreplacable. Very Happy
