The Bell Witch

In U.s. History there has been only one death officially attributed to a ghost. True this was over a hundred years ago, and people were more suspicious, and superstitous about anything out of the ordinary back then but the story makes me wonder. So here it is.
There was a plantation in Tennesee back in the 1800s, owned by a man named John Bell. In that year the Bell family began experiencing some strange things. First, it started with knocks, scratches, and things being moved about. Then the family began to be kicked, scratched, and having there hair pulled. Their daughter, Betsy Bell, got the worst of it. She was attacked day after day, and always got the more violent attacks. Now here comes the strange part. A disembodied voice rang out arounf the house, It claimed to be the witch of Kate Batts, an old neighbor of the Bells.
Then the attacks and the voice was heard all over the surronding area, beating defenseless people, and anyone who insulted her.
Then John Bell began to have bouts of sickness, and Kate claiming responsibility. Then his family found him one day, laying in his bed in a daze. A strange bottle was found near his bed. Full of some black liquid, the Family not knowing what it was gave it to some animal, which died sortly after, and so did John not much longer after that. Kate's voice claimed responsibility. She has never left the area since. Local lore says that she resides in a cave neat the Bell property, now called the Bell Witch Cave. Several scientists, soldiers, and even President Jackson investigated this incidence. None have ever spent the night in the bell witch cave.

hey iam new in here and i would like to talk or chat to one of the members iam into ghosts and witches it dosent matter realy i pretty much beleve in everything thats strange and or unsual or scary .but i do beleve very strongly inthem if ure not serious then dont tex back .thanx

hi angalenna73, welcome to the site!!! i think so far, everyone here believes in the supernatural..... i did put a skeptics forum on here but the only thing in there is the tumbleweed! hope you enjoy the site, (everyone here is very friendly anyway!!!) have fun!!!

Welcome to the forums Fenris & angalenna. I am still out on the witch thing. I believe it just could have been hysteria and superstition myself.

I have read many stories of people going nuts (literially) due to the unknown. Think they probably scared themselves into insanity over things we know today that would not bother many of us.

There is a movie about it, called An American Haunting. It was an amazing movie. I suggest it to anyone interested in the Bell Witch.

Only bad thing about "movies" is they add stuff to make it more "scary". I prefer factual documentaries myself...

I'm going to be home alone Friday evening and I wanted a good scary movie.
Thought I would give this one a try!

Well, I went to rent that movie and it was already out.
Had to settle with Harry Potter, Order of the Phoenix. Laughing
