It was Alex mentioning horses and fields

http://www.worldofghosts.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=27256#27256

that reminded me of a particular story:-

It was a dark night (not stormy, btw) quite a time ago now. There were four of us - me (ShadowDancer/Justin) and my sisters (Henut/Sarah) and (BlackCat/Lizzie), as well as a friend of mine (The Whizz/Simon). We brought our varied interests to this group. And called ourselves the Four of Spades, after a card we'd chosen out of a pack. And we chose our own Code Names.

We were younger then and quite adventurous (or naive, depending on your view). Anyway we'd gathered in a caravan in a field. Having got permission from the farmer first, naturally. And, having got bored with Board Games, decided upon Something Different. We made our own Ouija Board, and used a plastic coffee cup as the Tumbler. Lizzie and Sarah did some kind of Protection Spell (involving salt, pepper, candles, etc).

A Word - but I can't recall what (must ask Sarah or Lizzie, to see if they do) - was spelled out. Next thing we know the caravan shook and there was a horrid banging noise. We were all quite sacred. One of us plucked up the courage to look outside. And found a horse was Kicking Seven Bells out of it. Anyway, I was sent to Raise the Alarm. The farmer came and calmed the horse. We asked him its name. That was the Word the Board came up with! Shocked

Very interesting story Shadow - I'd like to know its name.

A cynic would say it was just coincidence the horse started to do that at that exact time, and one of you was cheating/or subconsciously moving the cup, and had heard the horses name somewhere before etc...

I don't know what to think - was there any more to this story? Did you do it again etc... Have you ever used a ouji since?

I see my Little Brother's (ShadowDancer aka Justin) been busy! The name of the horse was Minstrel, btw. He couldn't recall it, so he's asked me. And we didn't know it was in the field. It was the first time we'd ever been to that place before. None of us (Justin, our other sister (Lizzie), or myself) have gone back since... . At the time we liked the look of the spot, and asked the farmer if we could camp there. As we were paying him (don't recall what it cost us), of course he didn't mind... . Wink

By the time we arrived it was late afternoon/early evening. And we were very preoccupied with getting settled in. Dinner was a priority as there were four of us. And the two lads - Justin and Simon - could eat for England! So stocking up was essential.

The Ouija Board was an 'off the cuff' suggestion made by either myself or Lizzie. As Justin and Simon said the boardgames were getting a little dull. And they hadn't got a football with them. Rolling Eyes So we decided to 'liven things up'! And it did... .

I haven't used a Ouija Board since. Not sure about Justin - wouldn't surprise me if he was. Lizzie...I doubt it. Like me she's married with kiddies. We are 'sensible ladies' with 'responsibilities' Smile

I think one of us either burnt it or buried it. Don't recall which. I've had a go once or twice since. Again with a self-made Board. Ended up with an 'Entity' called Charles Bagnall or Bagnold. Very chatty for someone who's been since the 1930s. I barely got a Look In Exclamation

D B Sweeney - how long ago?

I must've been in my late teens or early twenties. My two sisters are older [Sarah's the eldest, Lizzie next; so I'm Little Brother Wink]. With three older women in the house, that was scary enough when I was growing up Exclamation Shocked Women can be cruel when they gang up on you Sad

Let's just say that, with having two older sisters, Justin is not in a good position to disagree! Wink

Re the horse, none of us did. As Justin said, it was dark when we arrived. And it was not very warm. And we were hungry. So we were focused on getting set up and settled. But we did need the farmer's permission (with plenty of cash to fleece his palm - no sheep jokes, please).

We were first aware something was wrong when the caravan started shaking. Naturally, we sent Justin out, as he was the youngest. And he was a very 'up for it' kid as well. He was always getting into scrapes of one kind or another. Being the only boy and the 'baby' of the family, our parents were quite indulgent with him. Too much so, at times. He's not grown up...much... .

That's a very spooky story. We've (me and family) done the ouiji board a few times and nothing bad has happened before. The worst is probably one of the spirits sending me out the room lol.

But it sounds like the horse had some sort of sense, animals do tend to recognize spirits more than humans.
