When I was 6 I lost my Grandad. He was a brilliant grandad and always willing to listen and to help me. I wasn't allowed to see him for the month before he died because he was very ill and it was thought that I might disturb him.

Anyway, two nights after his passing, I woke up with startled. I turned on my bedside lamp and looked around, seeing my grandad standing at the end of my bed (I had rarely known my grandad to stand, he had lost his leg when I was 2 and was wheelchair bound for most of the time I knew him). I think he realised that I saw him as he smiled and I felt a patting on my legs. I wasn't scared at first, but thinking about it 20 odd years later on makes me wonder what happened.

Interesting months afterwards I told my grandma and she said she had a similar experience.

Has anyone else had this? Is this more common than I think?

i would normally believe that i was dreaming.however i got out of bed immediately and walked around the room before going downstairs. I never laid down in between. While I was downstairs my mum caught me stealing a biscuit.

He must have come to see you for one last time before he left for good. I have not experienced this before myself but I have heard of many who have. The Buddhists believe that the consciousness of the deceased would take 49 days or shorter to take rebirth into his/her next existence.

I had never had anything like this happen to me till 1970 not long after I had married. My wife had lived with me for about six months in Minnesota where we were living near Grand Forks Air Force, Base, North Dakota while I was a security policeman working on missile sites scattered all over the state and her Irritable Bowel Syndrome began to bother her a lot plus she was very homesick so she came back to London to be treated on the nhs. In those days of no computer it wasn,t easy to keep in touch and I had no idea what the nhs was like being an american so didn,t understand what she was having to go through. All this upset me so much it was affecting my work and I had been removed from my classified duties till things were sorted out. One morning about 4 am I was suddenly awakened and realised someone was seated at the bottom of my bed in the barracks. I had not seen my grandmother Louisa since she had died of a heart attack in 1954 aged 60, but here she was just as I,d last seen her when she was full of life. "I know you,ve been sick with worry about Sue for months now, but I,ve come to put your mind at rest Big Guy(her pet name for me only she ever used)! Later on this morning you,ll receive a telegram confirming this and the date and time she,ll be flying in to Spokane Air port to join you for your new base-McChord!" she told me in the soft voice I remembered so well. "But I,m not being stationed there?" I argued. "Didn,t you ask your friend Tim in personnel to get you reassigned?" "Yes I did, but he hasn,t been back in touch in six months so I,d given up!" "Well he hasn,t. Trust me!" "Thank you Grandma!"! "My pleasure Big Guy. Have a good life and do your family proud!" As I watched she rose and faded away completely and I had to get up and look around to ensure I wasn,t dreaming. Needless to say when I went to check my post that morning there WAS a telegram from england waiting for me and Sue told me she,d dreamed of my grandmother who she hadn,t even seen pictures of telling her to book her flight to Spokane as I was being restationed at McChord, Washington not far from Tacoma. When I got back to my barracks there was a notice on the bulletin board for me to contact the orderly room ASAP where I was handed my orders to McChord Air Base reporting on June 17th, 1970. Another event in my life that,s difficult to explain and there are many others!

that certainly is a good example. be interesting if there are any explanations. I sometimes find the whole idea of someone who's passed away coming back to give messages a little frightful.

It may have been the spirit of your grandfather, but I too am dubious of any ghost sighting when someone has just woken up.

It is good to have an open mind, and I do believe in life after death/ghosts.

To be honest, I believe I might have saw one as a very young child, but I can't really be sure anymore, because it was so long ago and it is possible that I just imagined it, but who knows

I have never had any other paranormal experiences, yet Very Happy

Understood Mate as I think when we,re still quite young we see things we tend to put logic to as we mature. I believe many of my experiences were due to the fact I worked mostly night security and in some very ancient buildings and areas. Some of the things that happened while I was a military policeman got so common place we didn,t think twice about them-looking back now it,s amazing how younger people either don,t see what,s there or can,t understand them when they do.

It is one of the things I don't understand though - why do most people's experiences happen at night?

Simple reason- Spirits are more prone to the dark than the light (that does not mean to say they are scared of the light). Most spirits enjoy the night, I believe this is because it's more peaceful at night, not as hectic during the day.

I've not had a visit from a deceased relative myself but I have seen 3 spirits since I started getting involved in the paranormal. These were 3 of the most amazing...and scary experiences of my life.

It COULD be that you were dreaming especially since you just woke up. However it could be that your grandad had come to visit you, just to let you know that he is there watching over you.
