My first experiences happened before I moved to the UK when I was still living with my parents in NY.

In 1996 I flew out to California to see my then boyfriend who was working out there. He had gone to bed, and I had just finished in the bathroom and had turned off the hall light which was illuminating the bedroom. I could clearly see him in the bed and I started walking towards the bed which was no more than 10 feet away when I felt a hand grab my ankle and then let go. I let out a scream and from there jumped on the bed. Boyfriend proceeded to get out of bed and look around finding nothing.

We laid there for a while my heart racing and he ended up falling asleep. I couldn't sleep as I was still a bit unnerved. I can't be sure how much time had passed but I can remember listening to the boyfriend snoring and being annoyed that he found it so easy to sleep.

It was then that I suddenly felt complete terror. I have never in my life up until this point felt this kind of terror. I can only explain it as a feeling of evil. Then I felt like something was sitting on my chest and when I tried to call out to my boyfriend I couldn't.

This same feeling of terror and pressure on my chest and not being able to speak happened again about 7-8 months later at my parents house.

Haven't had it happen since.

2000 I moved to UK and then married. First few months I lived here with my husband a few strange things happened. They all seemed to happen upstairs. My husband and I were in the office. We had 2 desks and there was a small filing cabinet in between them which had a letter tray sitting on it. I was at my computer & my husband was standing directly behind me reading over my shoulder. Suddenly a ceramic mug full of pens which was on his desk flew off his desk and hit the wall on the other side of my desk.

My husband and I both looked at each and were like wow. He picked up the mug & pens and put them back on his desk. He then went about pushing it off his desk to see what kind of force it would take to make the mug go that far. Every time he pushed it, the mug landed in the letter tray on the filing cabinet.

A few months later we had a few friends of my husband were over and I was showing the friend's daughter something on the internet upstairs. (The mug incident had been forgotten by this time).

Her mother came up and told her it was time to go and then hugged herself and made a shivering gesture and sound and then walked out.

When we got there my husband's friend who at the time was in her 50's said you have a ghost in your house. Then she proceeded to say the ghost was brought in by someone it was attached to.

My immediate thought was it was me, as I had those weird experiences back in the states and my husband never had anything strange happen in the house prior to me being there.

Not long after we started decorating the bedrooms and I was taking pictures of our bedroom so I could email my mom to show her the makeover. The last picture I took was of the new dresser which was standing close to the bedroom door. In that picture by the door was what can only be described as an outline of someone 6 foot tall which looked like lightening.

We had my husband's cousins around one evening and just said here look at this picture. Husband's cousin looked at it and just swore a bit and said that looks like a man by the door.

We didn't have anything happen after that for about year when my mother in law passed away but that's for another night.

You have had a couple of interesting experiences there Smile

The first part you described sounds like sleep paralysis -

I wouldn't mind seeing the picture if you still have it.

Exactly Flossy, it does fit the description for sleep paralysis, but that doesn't mean it actually wasn't paranormal, as the feeling of being grabbed by a hand moments before would bring sleep paralysis more into question. I should point out more often when I try to give alternate explanations, that they are not 100% solid explanations, just possibilities.
