What a surprise. Everything forests mentions about Tony Cornell happens to be a cut and paste near enough from his wikipedia page. Wow you really read up on him sharla

You have been duped buddy. You throw out 120 years of science for your silly mediumship reading and when you hear you have been duped you get aggressive and start insulting people. You are no different than a young earth creationist or a flat earth believer, your beliefs do not represent reality. But each to their own. It was interesting hearing about your far out beliefs and how far you will go to twist the facts to support your belief. Cool

A former work colleague went to see a medium. The medium started to cry and said that she would not continue the reading. When my colleague questioned this, the medium said because it was too traumatic. About a month later my colleague's son died in a car crash.

I don't know what to think about this. I'm a little skeptical about the idea of mediumship and clairvoyance, even though I get 'psychic' thoughts quite a lot. I tend to put my own experiences down to intuition.

Nature of Ghosts:
I think Tony Cornell - whom I greatly respected as an investigator - was perhaps being too simplistic or 'blinkered' in his view that 'Ghosts' etc were all in the mind
- I think there is MUCH more to it than that...

for example what about cases like the Indian guy who went to work at Beacontree Railway station, knowing nothing about the history of the place, who claimed he saw the figure of a blonde woman with NO face...

he was then told that figure HAD been reported as being seen many times before - so would his, if we assume, 'all in the mind' unknowing experience then tally so accurately with that of others....?

Mediums:
re Mediums I have two interesting accounts

In 2000 I was having back treatment at a Holistic Centre and was asked if I would like to attend a 'psychic art' group - I knew nothing about it but went along the following saturday afternoon - at one point we were told to just 'empty our minds' and draw something for the person sat next to each of us, I drew (badly !) a cat....for the lady next to me whom I'd never met before...or seen since...she smiled & said she had a cat (nothing odd there eh ?)

BUT her drawing for me was a 'World War One' British soldier, a 'Tommy Atkins' figure with a neatly trimmed moustache & she had entered the initial 'J' next to the figure...

I was a bit taken aback as I knew my Dad's father my paternal Grandad (who died of a stroke in 1967) was in The Great War (he survived both the battle of the Somme in July 1916 and the rest of WW1 despite also being gassed ...!!)

My Grandad's name....was 'JOSEPH' !

BUT NO WAY did he have a moustache...my father NEVER saw him grow one....so surely she had got it wrong there...?

in 2012 my cousin who lives about 190 miles away from me, was clearing out the attic of his Dad (that is my Dad's older brother) & came across Grandad's long forgotten old service records & photos...he sent them on to me knowing of my interest - there was Grandad in July 1916 with his 'pals' all smart for a regiment photo...

....and my Grandad had a neat moustache !!!!

I compared the photo to my 'psychic art' sketch from 12 years ago...it was the SAME guy !

My Dad, his brothers & sister nor his Mum (who died in 1985) EVER saw my Grandad with a moustache, but he had grown one while serving & must have shaved it off before he returned home to them (old era photos we have of him as a young man always show him 'clean chaven', but this one military regimental group photo taken in France 1916 shows him with the moustache - and he is correctly named with his service number in the photo along with the rest of his regiment so no possibility of a 'mix up' of personnel or any other guys who looked like him etc...)

it was NOT unusual for soldiers to have whiskers of course (think Captain Blackadder in the comedy show), tho' not ALL the soldiers did, but my late Grandfather was not known by his family to ever have one either pre-WW1 or therafter

and what about that lady 'guessing' the initial 'J' (spot on,that is a '1 in 26' letters chance)

My Dad, my cousin & me were left scratching our heads about how uncannily accurate that lady's psychic art skecth had proved to be...

my other meduim experience I'll post later

I used to enjoy the 80's TV series 'Ghosthunters' made by Ex- BBC 'Tomorrow's World' reporter William Woollard (not the later show re two American plumbers whose 'secret identities' - ala Batman & Robin - are as ghostbusters !!)

That 80's show featured witnesses & then alot of eminent scientists giving very balanced opinions & reports - plus investigator guys like Tony Cornell (who was very impressed by one report of the ghost of a young girl seen in a Hotel room) & Maurice Grosse

Professor Archie Roy on the subject of mediums said:

'we know there are fake mediums...but we also know there is counterfeit money, does that then automatically mean ALL money is counterfeit...?'

(we can insert a witty & obvious reply of course, but the point he makes IS quite valid - and you simply 'CAN'T prove a Negative' anymore than you can prove the paranormal exists can you...?)

sceptics blanket dismissals are mere 'assumptions', just that and hold NO more validity than a person's claim to have experienced a paranormal event - we should keep that in mind...

those who bleat about 'science' as their vanguard defence should bear in mind 'science' is a fliud thing

ONCE 'science' claimed there were just SIX planets (hence no 'Pluto' or any others on Holst's 'Planets Suite' written at the time of The Great war)....and that Saturn had seven rings only, given names even....until a brief transmission back from Voyager blew 'science' thinking out of the water...and a few books needed a quick 'rewrite' !

science keeps 'moving it's goalposts' (it has to) - science keeps inventing new words (quasars, pulsars, quarks, nutrinos, etc) as it evolves...

we can't define the paranormal - but could people hundreds of years ago define X-rays, gamma rays, sub atomic particles either ?

Science changes it's attitude over time too as more is experienced - for example when American President William Mackinley was gunned down and Doctors could not locate the bullet the 'New' X Ray machine was at the same exhibition he was attending, they offered to use it on him to locate the bullet - but Doctors feared using it might cause unknown harmful side effects thus declined the offer...and the Pres duly died from his infected wound as the bullet had not been removed - yet today Doctors use X-Rays, MRI & Cat Scans without hesitation...but back then 'science' was not that advanced enough to readily accept the X-Ray as a medical tool.....unluckily for The Pres...

science is a living growing thing that moves with the times, and to quote what 'science' says or accepts today as an argument is really pointless as science CAN change it's mind in the future....

science is good at measuring, looking for cause & effect, but I suspect the Paranormal is just not something that can be 'measured', 'easily defined by clear cause & effect' and thus 'science' is largely left stumped by it

Humans as a race do tend to 'bury their heads in the sand' and often REFUSE to accept things exist |(the old 'Flat Earth' mentality) - we see this time & time again in medicine....the acceptance of vaccination being a golden example (initially the medical profession indignantly REFUTED vaccination could possibly work !)

we see illnesses that are initially NOT accepted as being 'real' (this still happens today) then eventually medicine comes around to accepting it & we often then name the illness after the pioneer who bothered to do the research and pin the thing down !!

so we must keep a balanced view and remember what is accepted today once was dismissed in the past, and our understanding of the nature of things CAN alter....and may do so in the future as we learn more.
