Elveston Castle hauntings

Has no one ever heard of Elveston Castle!
its not in the most haunted list and it should be, i live down the road from it and have spent many happy years running around the castle and its grounds having a great time.

at night the place comes to life with the other side of life and it gets crowded, many people have had a scary experiance or two while out walking their dog on the grounds and as a teenager every kid in my village has gone down there at night to get the hell scared out of them and none of them come back without that look of fear and regret on their faces Smile

even in the day stuff is seen, heard and felt that freaks people out.

i know all the sad and happy stories of the castle as i knew the grounds keeper when i was a teenager, ask me if your interested or dont already know

when most haunted did a special live show there i was dissapointed to see that half the happenings they suggested had happened were played up or down and the best were never shown.

i do know that the current keeper of the castle has a thing about publicity but that guy is stupid if he aint gonna cash in on it Very Happy

I looked Elveston Castle up...it's beautiful!

The first personal expiriance i had at Elveston was when i was 9 years old, it was mid afternoon, about 6pm, in summer, me and some friends were playing hide and seek aroud the summer house area of the grounds, i hid inside the lower part of the summer house where the 60 ft well is, i tucked myself in to the corner and waited, suddenly i heard someone running towards me and into the well room to the opposite side of me, i put my hands in the air and said," ok you got me", the person in the other corner was not a child like me, as i edged around the well towards them i could see a soft ankle length sort of night dress hanging from a young womans form she looked through me like i was not there, i felt she was affraid, when i got closer to ask her what was wrong she just ran through me.
Now that well has no sides and its kind of dark under there so all i had for light was the two door ways and a small slit window, i was feeling very strange and nearly fell down that well, i knew what i had seen but that feeling of her passing through me was freaky and she left the smell of roses behind.

i told the grounds keeper and he asked loads of questions and then told me who it was and what i had seen i will tell you more about this later.............

Sounds like a residual haunting.. the episode would have happened whether you were there to see it or not. I to would like to hear the rest of the story..

yb isnt a residual haunting a reply of something thats happened in the past abit like a video playing something u have recorded.

When she passed through me i felt her fear but it was like when your running to hide from someone that might see you like steeling milk from a door step, are thay watching or not, i felt mixed emotions of exitement and fear, and the smell of roses was mixed with violets.

The grounds keeper was called Reg and he had been working the ground since he could remember, his father was keeper before him so he grew up on the grounds and saw alot of stuff.

He told me the story of two bodies that are in the well and how no one will drain the well because of the ghosts that haunt it, he believes that if they drained the well the ghosts would rest, but no one would give permission for it so the proof of a double murder will never come, everyone in the castle that were very close to the stanhope family knew something was wrong when the lords second daughter had suddenly left.

Reg called her Helen and him bobby, apparently she was the lords daughter and he was a boy from the village she knew, his family owned a leather working shop in the local village where i live now.

they had a very close friendship and would meet at the summer house most evenings to be together, reg thinks she was yonger than him,she was 15 when she went missing or had to move away and he was 17.
Reg thinks they were not so much in love with each other but just very close and enjoyed eachothers company but her father read it wrong and when he found out he stopped her from seeing him and threatend his family to keep him away, suppose thats why they met late and all that.

one evening she was due to meet him and she never turned up so he went to the window of her room and tried to get her attention but her father came out as if he were waiting for him, he told him she had gone away and would never return.
the boy returned every night for days and the lord kept shoeing him off the land, one night the boy vanished too.

Are they both in the well or did he send her away and he gave up coming for her?

well since then the well has been filled in and the doors and window bricked up.

In 1996 the castle changed hands again and the new guy wanted everything back working and set to rebuilding alot of the outer buildings back to full working order, they started on the boat house then moved on to the summer house, while digging out and draining all the gunk from the well the ground workers discovered two sets of bones and these bones are now in the grave yard in an unmarked grave.

the well was filled and the doors blocked and the whole summer house project was left until 1998 when they went to start work on it again but the idea was to keep the well room blocked and remove the bourd from the main upper door and rebuild the main part, they got there to find the bourd loose and when they got in they found a dead tramp inside, he died with his eyes open,

now the summer house has been fully bricked up and blocked off.

now dont you think that is a bit oooohhhhh

thanks for sharing that kizzie.do u think they were murdered or do u think her death was a freek accident and his was cos he couldnt be with out her and realised she was dead.if it was murder prehaps the tramp saw the murderer.

hey havent heard from kizzie for a while now do you think we scared her off.
