Hi all,

I am new here so thought the best first step would be to introduce myself.

I am particularly interested in ghosts & hauntings and I always try to respect peoples beliefs. I would say that I want to believe in ghosts & the paranormal - it is an area that has always fascinated me, but I have quite a scientific mind so would have to see some pretty solid evidence before I make up my mind for sure. I guess thats why I am here.

Anyway I look forward to getting involved in the discussions here, sharing my thoughts and hearing all yours.

Very Happy

I have had a few strange experiences that make you wonder but nothing that I would be able to say 100% paranormal.

I was lucky enough when I was a student to have a weekend & summer job at a place that was dubbed one of the most haunted places in Derbyshire where I would hear things that would literaly go bump in the night even when I was the only person in the building. I was never able to find where the sounds came from but thats not to say they were paranormal.

Probably the strangest thing to happen to me and the only thing to ever leave me scratching my head and wondering was when I was at an ex girlfriends house for the first time, it was a detatched house and we was alone in the living room, we would hear what sounded like footsteps upstairs but when going to check there was no one there. I kind of ignored it but when she went outside for a cigarette I stood in the kitchen doorway talking to her, we both heard the footsteps but this time it sounded like they were coming down the stairs (I genuinly expected to turn round and see a person) the footsteps got to the bottom of the stairs, it went quiet for a little then the TV turned off. I went to go and turn it back on only to see that the plug was pulled out of the wall. Worth saying that it was in the summer so no heating to make pipes bang upstairs or anything.

I am sure there are explainations for that one but it certainly left both of us puzzled! Any theories?

Hi Nevermore, sounds like a first class example of a haunting to me. I know this stuff happens even though ive not heard or seen any ghosts myself as my x reported simular at a pub.
The stairs, the doors but all in the building and nobody there.

I actually consider that prof itself and cant imagine accepting it was normal. Something came down the stairs in your account hence the 'person coming down the stairs sound so I can't see what other explanation could be.

Try this(clasissic debunk) The sound of the staircase being used was infact your imagination after hearing some pipes that never usually make that sound......

Get my drift?? they're real.
Keep hunting and an eye on the sky too, as you've had ghost experience you might have luck spotting ET.

That doesn't make sense.

Nevermore, well I believe from what you described that it could well have been a spirit that came down the stairs and unplugged the tv, but of course it is always better to consider rational explanations first.

do you have any pets, cat or a dog that could come down the stairs or even walked by and accidently pulled the plug out Confused
just a thought?

No theories yet but a few questions for clarity Very Happy

How long ago did this happen Nevermore?. How old was the house and are you sure the TV was on when you went to stand with your girlfriend in the yard?. Also was your ex ever given to practical jokes and could someone else (alive not dead) have been in the house?.

Cheers Wink

Thanks for the replys everyone, nice to see that you think there could be something behind this but as Thecactus said it COULD have been a spirit but always best to consider other options first.

To answer your questions Flossy & DB, no pets in the house so that wouldn't have been a factor, it was about 3 years ago (I am still friends with the ex and we still talk about it to this day), the house isnt too old I would guess 1960-1970 build, TV was definately on as I actually remember we was watching family guy!, There was no one else that I was aware of in the house for the 3 to 4 hours before this happened and was no one else in the house when I drove home around 1 to 2 hours after so if there was someone hideing for a joke they had pretty good stealth skills!

Like Agentscott said, my 1st thought was pipes but as I said the heating wasn't on that day and I never heard the pipes do that kind of noise since then.

I also checked whether I had to stretch the wire on the plug when I plugged it back in to see if there was any pre-exsisting tension in the lead which could cause it to pull out but there was plenty of legnth left.

As I said, not claiming it was definately paranormal but certainly unexplained as far as I am concerned.

Hi Nevermore, I suggested pipes as a sarcastic explanation commonly used by debunkers just to highlight how they try to blame it on anything available.

I beleive this is likely a real haunting and unlike thecactus I can commit to a decision either way.

Cant sit on a fence forever.
