D B Sweeney,
Quote:

If I visited a medium who relayed various 'facts' that only I knew then I'd seek independent verification of his or her powers - I wouldn't just accept that they were genuine because they got certain things about me correct.

But how would you seek independant verification of their powers?

Why would you not accept that they are genuine if they proved it to you?

Submit them to testing under controlled conditions.

Why would you not accept that they are genuine if they proved it to you?

Because I require others, more professional and more scientifically trained to verify that they're demonstrating real powers and not scamming me.

Is a little 'faith' beyond you? I wouldn't need that much verification, and it would never happen - when the scientists couldn't explain how the medium obtained the information, it would just become another anamoly, like people who have been dead for 10 minutes and then come back to life, which is scientifically and medically impossible, but has happened.

Different people have different levels of what they accept before they 'believe' something. I don't work on faith when it comes to the paranormal.

I don't think they'll just shrug their shoulders, say "Well, that's got us baffled" and leave it at that - the scientific method doesn't work that way.

Damn you DB - you made me look up death which led to premature burial which led to me reading all about the Nanking Massacre Rolling Eyes were civilians were buried alive; it was really brutal, but I can't believe I had never heard of this before.
