I've read a lot about the Mothman, Keel's books mainly but also other commentators take on the whole saga.
IMO the whole Mothman flap was mass hysteria and some very creative writing by John Keel. Back then, it would have been relatively easy to whip up a town into a frenzy - I don't think that would be possible nowadays. The 50's, 60's and 70's were the golden age of 'flaps'. Keel has even admitted that most of his writings were not entirely true and fictional creations.

The movie 'Mothman Prophecies was pretty good.
I agree with DB on it being a case of mass hysteria. |
