Hi. Death Omens - Does any on here believe in Omens, Has anyone witnessed an omen. Thinking back to my grandmothers death in 2000, she told me of how she was scared when she heard a crow outside on the upstairs bedroom window ledge tapping at the glass, but not understanding what this was supposed to have meant at the time, I just put her classical music on louder and closed the curatins for her. 3 days later she died of what we didn't know at the time was Bowel Cancer
In March 2001, Still getting over the death of my grandmother, I was sat in the family home with my Mum, Dad and 3 sisters, We were watching the 6 o clock news when suddenly my mum and dads wedding picture fell of the wall. Next morning at 5am, my mother walked accross to the bathroom and fell down dead on the landing, it was later discovered she died of DVT. Coincidence or actual omens, I am still skeptical. I witness signs that should be takn as omens but ignore them and dont think anything of them, but then there are occasions where i have dreams, people say that they are Omen Dreams, not sure. Having posted my dream for interpretation, but I would like to know what you guys think about OMens.

Death Omens
By Jennifer Tyrrell
Death Omens are found in many different cultures and in almost every part of the world. They can be as simple as watching a picture fall off the wall or as hard to understand as the cry of the banshee. The list of omens is quite long.
Why is this? Why do people search for these clues?
What is the obsession that humans have with death?
The quick and simple answer to the questions above is that death is something most of us do not fully understand. We do not and cannot know with 100% certainty what if anything is on the other side. We wait until our time comes and it is our turn to find out what lies behind the dreaded word death.
Some people turn to their faith and take comfort in what they are taught. Others try to learn as much as they can about the physical processes of death and dying.
The problem with the latter is that you can learn about the physical aspects of death and dying, you can be shown and taught what to look for when the time is near, but once a person has died there is nothing to learn any further. In the end the results are always the same. No one knows what's on the other side until we get there. As humans the unknown and the inability to control things puts us on guard and makes us uneasy. So we continue our quest for understanding the unknown. Below you will find a list of the most common death omens and a summary of what they mean.
Please be advised these are not medical warnings they are simply the old ways of trying to pin down a timeline, they are for information purposes only! And should not be used as anything more than entertaining reading.
Simple Warnings that a death is about to happen
A picture that falls of the wall for no apparent reason
A clock that stops
A clock that fails to chime or ring
A mirror that breaks while still on the wall
A cat that leave the home and will not re-enter it
A bird pecking at a window
An owl seen during the daytime
A dog that howls for no reason during the night
More complex warnings
Hearing a mournful cry or howl
For Irish families this could be the warning cry of the banshee (see other piece on the folklore section of ParaResearchers)
Hearing horse hoofs or a carriage outside your home
Could be the sound of the Coach-a-Bower, another old example of Irish folklore. (See the folklore section of ParaResearchers for a complete write up)
Seeing a black dog with or without glowing eyes
Could be the black shuck or "death dog" (also in the folklore section)
Death Visions
It is long believed that a person that is about to die, will see and sometimes talk to what seems to be people in the room that can only be seen by the ill person. There are many different theories on who or what they are talking to. Christians believe it is Jesus or Angels that have come to guide the person to the other side. Others believe it is family members that have already passed on making the transition from this world to the next easier. Others think it is nothing more than the ill person's brain shutting-down.
The Good Day
It is not uncommon for the ill person to have been through some very hard days. It is said that sometimes they do have a good day just before they die. Where they are able to talk and laugh with love ones.
There are many medical signs to look for as well, but I will not go into these as they are not always apparent to the caregiver and there are also many other reasons that the signs may be present other than an upcoming death. If you wish to know more please talk to your physician.
After Death Customs
Mirrors
Turn all the mirrors around or cover them. It is said that the spirit will be confused if this is not done.
Stop the clock
Stop the clock at the time of death. It is a sign of respect.
Insure that the body leaves the house by the front door
Again this is a sign of respect.
The body should leave the home feet first
It is said that if the head goes out first the spirit may return. (Many funeral homes do this automatically, but I think it is also a sign of respect that this is done)
Open windows in the room
They say that the windows in the room where the death occurred should be opened after to allow the spirit to leave. |

I guess if you wish to classify these into death omens then yes, we have had a few, pictures, things breaking. I never looked at them as an omen but a direct message from the deceased. |

Very interesting reading Damara. Thank you.
I've seen some of these things but never put it to a Death Omen.
e.g.
An owl seen during the day.
Hearing a mournful cry or howl.
A dog that howls for no reason at night.
Seeing a black dog with or without glowing eyes.
Next time I will be more aware what may follow.

A few days before my nan died I was sitting with her in her living room, when all of a sudden a blackbird flew through an opened window, around the room and back out again. My nans mother was an Irish gypsy and they were both very superstitious. Kev. |

Thanks for finding this thread again for me damaralenoire!
A few years ago my mum was walking through our local park and past the old church and church yard. She saw a black figure walking through the grave yard, looked away, quickly looked back and it had disappeared, there was no-one at all to be seen. A few weeks later an old Aunt died.
I also had a prediction from a Ouija Board, this is why I stay away from them as this freaked me out! Ok I am going to sound really mad here, views would be much appreciated.
When I was at school some friends said they had done the Ouija Board and had got through to someone called Pan! They said that he described himself as half boy half goat, those of you who know something of Greek Mythology will know who he is. They began joking around and taking the mickey etc. This 'being' told them each that something was going to happen to them, one being a violent death!
Fast forward a couple of years. My friend and I did the Ouija Board and were both so scared of this 'being' contacting us, we still did it though. The glass started rotating quickly and yes, the glass spelled out Pan! It then spelled out 3 Nov. This was September by the way! It also spelled out the word 'manipation'
My nan died that year 3rd November and one of the boys who did the Ouija Board at school died violently in a house fire a year later!
Has anyone heard of the word manipation? Could it be anagram? |
