Hi there
I was just wondering if anyone else managed to capture photographs of ghosts. Over the past three years I seem to have been getting numerous very peculiar oddities on camera whilst visiting historical sites in UK, Europe and even Egypt. I have a book out about my "journey" and the pics I have taken called "Granny Ghost Hunter" (don't laugh) - for sale on Amazon if everyone is interested. I don't know why I kept getting these images and someone recently commented that I am a ghost MAGNET, which does scare me slightly. Can anyone tell me if this is possible and if they have experienced the same thing? |

Sheels, Hi and welcome to the forum
Have you ever captured a full bodied ghost on camera? |

Define ghost.
A picture of a ghost, for me, would have to be a recognisable human shape, face, hair, eyes, limbs etc.
Orbs, or the similar, dont cut it for me. Ive taken many pictures while "urbexing" and had numerous oddities show up, usually getting in the way or spoiling the picture. Historical sites contain a lot of dust and air pollutants which can be kicked up by visitors or drafts, so this could explain a lot of photos(not just yours).
I think "granny ghost hunter" is a great name for a book!
If you are a ghost magnet, I doubt there is a need to be scared, as it appears they have only been caught in photos. If you noticed personal occurances in your every day life, than I would be a little aprehensive.
Welcome to the forum, perhaps you could post a few pictures for us to see and maybe discuss? |

Hi Shelagh, a very warm welcome to our forum
Can you post a link to some of your ghost pics so some of us can see them and evaluate their provenance?. The overview to your book says you did research - can you elaborate on that and maybe give us a few choice examples of the Ghosts you captured in your photos?.
Certain people seem to be a focus for paranormal activity but this could be a purely subjective personal interpretation on the part of the individual concerned.
As an example, you could send two people( one a believer, the other a sceptic) each with a camera into the Edinburgh vaults walking side by side and taking pictures of the same areas so that they each roughly come away with the same number of pics of the same subjects. Then get them to interpret their pictures and I guarantee the believer will find more anomalies, orbs and ghosts in their pictures than the sceptic will - that's what subjective interpretation consists of.
Many thanks...and congratulations on the publication of your book
PS: well said Carlos.

Hi
Just a quick reply for now as busy. Will give a more in-depth reply later. To take a look at a few of my pics you can go to either my Facebook page www.facebook.com/grannyghosthunter or www.butterflymoon.co.uk and click on "photo album". I'm not claiming these are ghosts, just putting them "out there" and people can see and decide for themselves. As for being skeptical - I was the biggest one of all but have an open mind now.
p.s. There is to be an article about the book in the Scottish Sunday Post this week. I told the photographer he could feel free to airbrush my wrinkles! |

Thanks Shelagh,
I had a look at the pics on the butterflymoon page and they're interesting - as you admit, you're not claiming these are ghosts but looking for explanations possibly.
Before I list my brief analysis of them I'll just let you know where I'm coming from in terms of my opinion.
I'm a professional photographer (who has been interested in the paranormal since I saw my first ghost when I was about 8) and have been for nearly 30 years, having worked in print and digital media. I've also worked in film and video (print/digital) and regularly contribute to various paranormal websites when photographic anomalies need professional analysis.
Here's my take on the pics you posted, please don't take my comments as a dismissal of their potentially paranormal origins:
Catacombs in Paris - Pareidolia
Dover Castle - Lens flare
Dunnottar Castle -Dummy/person
Ghost at Pevensey Castle - Can't make anything ghostly out.
Monk at St. Albans Catherdral - Unexplained - need more info/other pics in the sequence.
Rochester Castle - Can't make anything ghostly out.

the Monk at St. Albans Catherdral looks like it could be part of the railing and shodows
could be wrong, just what i see
the image at Dunnottar Castle creeps me out the most
it looks like a lady to me just standing staring out the window
did you notice anything there at the time, when you took the picy?
i cant see anything in Dover castle or Catacombs in Paris |

Pictures of ghosts as proof that ghosts exists will never be accepted as proof anymore, not by me and not by the scientific community - even for the most amazing ghost pictures that are yet to be taken - same goes for UFO/alien pics and video footage, digital technology has advanced to the degree that the two are indistinguishable to all but the digital imagery professionals who work at the top of their game.

Flossy
The one at Dunnottar Castle was not a dummy in the window. This pic was taken from a distance and when we looked round the castle, there was nothing at that location. The photos taken immediately before and after showed nothing. Some of the pics on the website weren't ghost ones, just included in the book and were for reference. I have taken them out and put some more in.
DB
I can assure you that all the photos I have taken (whatever they are) are genuine. Digital imagery professional? I wouldnt know where to start. |

Could it have been a tourist or someone who worked at the Castle briefly looking out the window?.

It is possible I suppose, but doesn't look like a physical person. Of course, could maybe have been the reflection of light or something, but seems too clear for that. There was only one member of staff in the booth when we arrived (with Dunnottar Castle plastered over the front of their shirt)and about 6 people visiting in total when we visited, so unlikely. |
