Well I dont know any personally by name but I beleive they a know as referees. They look at your final paper and decide if it's printable in the journals available today.
So what we have is a system that works a bit like Wikkipedia.
Anything unwanted will be discarded or dissallowed.
That is controling what makes it public. |

It is true that mainstream science can be manipulated - some examples with economic reasons include: for years cigarettes were proven by the top scientists not to damage health, just as mobile phones are proven not to give people brain tumors, in contradiction to many other scientists research, but how often is that mentioned? |

Scientists in the employ of Cigarette manufacturers Cactus. There were also medical experts at the time who said that cigarettes were damaging to health. Don't tar science because of a few bad apples.

D B Sweeney, it's the same today with mobile phones for example - they are not employed by the companies, the companies just give leading scientists in oxbridge or other leading institutions generous grants and probably nice christmas presents (I've heard of one case were a scientist was given 90,000 pound to give his expert opinion in court for one day by a mobile phone company in which he said they don't cause cancer)
All in all, I think agentscott has a point here. |

I see nothing there that contradicts the assertion. |

Yes you said that, but how do you claim it is different? |

I think Iain has gone for the time being. Maybe he'll come back...who knows. Either way he's a loss to the site and I find it sad that he's gone due to a simple misunderstanding on his part.
