My Mum saw a ghost when she was a teenager. She was living with her Granny at the time. One day she was walking home, in a country area, this is in N.Ire - it was the middle of the day - as she come to a part of the road on the left there are two gates with high (over 5ft) stone walls. A woman walked across the road in front of her from right to left. The woman was about 10-15 feet in front of her. This woman looked completely like a normal person, not ghostly in any way. My Mum called out "hello", but the woman never looked around. She was just looking straight ahead and walking straight ahead. The woman walked out of view behind the wall - as you would towards the gate. As my Mum got to where the woman had gone she looked and was surprised not see her, she then walked over and climbed up on the gate and the woman was nowhere to be seen. There are two large feilds on either side of the gates. My Mum then became very scared and walked the last mile home. When she got home, her Granny realised there was something wrong with her, and my Mum told her what happened. Her Granny then told her that a woman had lived where Mum saw her come out of, but had died years before. Mum described the woman and there was no doubt it was the same woman. Apparently this woman had some mental health problems, but her Granny wouldnt go into any detail. But the woman did walk back and forward across that part of the road many times a day. My Mum says that the ghost was definately not aware of her. |

I'm guessing that a number of decades have passed between this incident and now. As I've said before - it's a BIG misconception that the human memory is an accurate recording device...it isn't and much research has been done to support that view.

My Mum told various family members at the time about what happened - and I have asked them recently, seperately, to tell me what she told them, and they all recalled pretty much the exact same story.
I agree obviously the human memory isnt 100% accurate but there are varying degrees - some people cant remember where they just left the keys, others have photographic memory and others have total recall. |

Small update: I was talking to Mum about this since I wrote this and this is more accurate:
Ghost Mum Saw
My Mum saw a ghost when she was a teenager. She was living with her Granny at the time. One day she was walking home - it was about 7.30pm, but it was a Summers evening and was just like the middle of the day - as she come to a part of the road on the left there are two gates with high (about 5ft) stone walls. As my Mum got to where the woman had gone she looked and was surprised not see her, she then looked over and the woman was nowhere to be seen. There are two large fields on either side of the gates. My Mum was confused, as the woman was so real looking, and walked the last mile home. When she got home, Granny realised there was something wrong with her, and my Mum told her what happened. Granny then told her that she knew the woman Mum was talking about, but had died years before. The woman had lived in the direction of the house she had come from. Mum described the woman and there was no doubt it was the same woman, even down to the fact that she had a limp, dressed in black clothes, and was a bit heavy, with her hair up in a bun. Apparently this woman had some mental health problems, but Granny wouldnt go into any detail. But the woman did walk back and forward across that part of the road many times a day to collect eggs. My Mum says that the ghost was definately not aware of her. |

Interesting stuff there Cactus, Are ghost normaly supposed to be aware of the living world then? I find it hard to get my head around them living on earth but part that we don't see?
My mum spoted an orb above her head in this place and then it moved out of the room, my dad also spotted it that same night in what is now my room. |

I think there are different kinds of ghosts - intelligent (they are aware of us) and residual (like replays of the spirits life and not aware of us)
Have you ever seen a ghost? |
