|
|
Ok, we use the term a lot, but what do we actually believe a spirit to be?
Obviously nobody has the answers, but here's something to mull over if you like :)
First off, when we see a "spirit" in a haunting, I don't think we're really seeing a spirit, I believe we're seeing, or rather our brain is receiving a signal about, a movement of energy. Now, a lot of poeople have suggested that a spirit is energy based, but if that were the case would it have the ability to convert other energy types? Would it be more likely that the spirit itself could be matter based (all be it on a sub-atomic level) ?
When you think about it, we see energy, but it's always interacting with matter ie fire/light. We can't see kinetic energy, merely it's result on matter. If a spirit was pure energy would we be able to see it, and would it be able to convert other energy forms? It's too long ago that I studied physics, so I await the opinions of those better read on the subject, but what do you reckon? |

I read someplace, someone was saying there is a difference between a spirit and a ghost. Comments on this theory?? |

Well I believe that a 'ghost' and spirit are the same thing.
With a ghost the term is often applied quite loosely. The word makes me think of a visible person after death, also the white cloth 'BOO' drawings you so often see.
With a spirit, to me it sounds much more in depth and perhaps a little more frightening (although I prefer to use this wording) and it makes me think of a being rather than an actual person (does that make sense?) although it could still and 9 times out of 10 certainly be a person after death.
I do believe that spirits are energy and that orbs are the beginning or the core of the spirit trying to show themselves.
Hope I've made sense with this.
A nice in depth question SM |

Simple, not all ghosts are spirits, and not all spirits are ghosts. Some spirits, however, are ghosts and vice versa :)
Kaz, I used to think they were a form of energy, but there just, for my mind, seemed too many differences between spirits, and the way energy behaves. I go along with the idea of orbs being the first stage of manifestation, I'd also say a manifestation is energy, however I still believe that the spirit itself isn't, but that it's the spirit that causes, or even utilises, the change in energy patterns causing the manifestation.
Also, when there's a manifestation, energy is seemingly absorbed by it from surrounding sources, hence battery drains, cold spots etc. IF a spirit was energy, would it need to do this? More likely if an energy source (such as a spirit for this hypothesis) were to come into an area, we'd see the opposite (ie warm spots, power surges etc)
Just a theory anyway |

Hello all,
There are allegedly many different types of 'ghosts', some of these include poltergeists, elementals, messenger spirits, crisis apparitions and so on.
This is a good read for those wanting to know the basics: http://www.assap.org/newsite/htmlfiles/Types%20of%20ghost.html

the difference between ghosts and spirits
most people associate ghosts with or like an imprint caught in time, kind of like a recording that may play back at certain times over and over again.
where as spirit is almost like a living energy that can interact with us on this side of life xxx |

Going back to the original point though, what do you believe a spirit to actually be? |

i kinda like this theory
We don’t have a spirit, we are spirit. We are amazing beings of light and energy who have been around for eons, and when we decide to incarnate on Earth to have particular experiences, we take on a physical appearance!
The physical body we have is no more than a ‘hired car’ that we have chosen for this lifetime. xxx |

Good analogy Woo.. I to liken ones spirit to a car and driver. The car can run until it's fuel runs out but it can't do nothing without the driver (spirit)
To most people, a ghost and spirit are one in the same. To me the are the same. A ghost is a manifestation of ones spirit in (visually) human form. |

I was going to say something similar, I believe that we are spirit, living in a human form. When we die, the human form dies, yet our spirit continues to live on. |

The point I was asking about though, is what do you think the spirit's make up is, be it physical/energy etc Any thoughts? |

Hmmm, I'm still not convinced, the "spirit" we see is energy, but I still think it's possible that the actual spirit is matter, and what we're seeing is an energy manipulation caused by the spirit |

If it was matter though, wouldn't we be able to actually physically feel something more solid than just say change in temperature, cold spots etc?
Just a thought :)
Definately off to the land of nod now! |
