Sadly, thanks to the English Civil Wars [1640s], there is very little 'castle' to see. But the site does have a long and varied history, as a Castle, Ducal Mansion, and, since 1878, as a Museum and Art Gallery.

The only 'Medieval' part left is the Gatehouse. And most of this was 'reconstructed' in 1908. This is where I do my weekend volunteering [ground floor, South Bastion]. And it is this area that has the reputation. During World War Two prisoners of war were held there, and soldiers stationed in it. Some even left graffitti on the stonework inside.

Several volunteers have noted a really 'icy spot' in the centre of the room we're based in. And one or two, me included, have felt a distinct 'presence' there. Two days ago, I was rota'd with two colleagues. One of them sent me this e-mail afterwards:

"The cold spot in the Bastion...I got the impression he was a soldier. I 'sensed' there was a man in a khaki uniform, a wide webbing belt, and a hat with a peak. The sort an officer would wear. Did you get any impressions of who it could be?"

The other volunteer and didn't see this 'man'. But we did detect someone close by. And watching us. At one point, I even felt a hand on my arm. And, while I was holding it, my push-button ballpoint pen just fell apart, much to the surprise of all 3 of us!
Shocked

I used to get ballpoint pens disintegrating all the time at College - usually during important exams. These things happen all the time given the sheer number of people that own and use Ballpoint pens and sometimes they'll happen in allegedly haunted locations.

Up to that point the pen had had only 'one careful owner' - me. And it's never gone to pieces before.... Smile

The pen malfunctioned at that moment in time - have you studied the laws of probability and chance?. You've absolutely no evidence to prove that the ghost caused it to fall apart other than your own wishful thinking and confirmation bias.

The whole of human existence runs along the 'probability curve'. I suspect, if you started the process of evolution on Earth all over again, that another species entirely would be dominating this planet. Dolphins might be an improvement, considering the shambolic mess our so-called 'intelligent lifeform' has made of things...
