Rendlesham has become the UK Roswell. It's polarised opinions.

Yeah Rendlesham is probably the most famous UFO case, but it is debatable what really was witnessed.

I meant to say most famous UFO case in the UK.

With Rendelsham the facts are in places stranger than the story it's self. There was an American NSA (National Security Agency) presence on the Island in the Ness close to the lighthouse for example.

There was?. How do you know this KC and why would the presence of the NSA add any credence to the claim that base personnel encountered a downed UFO?.

I had never heard there was an NSA presence either. I'm surprised anyone would even know that if it was the case, as most people just say ''NSA? No Such Agency'' Very Happy

I am not saying that the presence adds or detracts from anything to do with any alledged UFO. But what I am saying, is that like many many good stories, such as the Titanic passing her sea tests with a fire on board for example. The real story is even more wired that any so called stranger than fact story.
Very often the known facts, show that nothing is stranger than facts.
The stories of the NSA being present on the island in the Ness, go back prior to the alleged UFO incident. Although the official line is that it was part of a Over The Horizon Radar experiment. But I'm not sure what part, as these radars operate on Short Wave & have massive antennas & they also cause a massive amount of RF, so thier presence would be known if transmitting. The Russians were using "Woodpecker" at the time, google that, or even it's modern replacements, they are ALL known to Short Wave Listeners, due to the mess they make of the bands & the fact that the antennas are BIG.
No one knows for sure if the NSA was present, or what was happening on the Ness or why the Americans had a presence there rather than use the available space on their local bases. But in the 1980's the Americans were funding amongst other things updated Laser radar. The old system being LIDAR the new 1980's military air radar system being UV Dial & this would have both a defence application & as aircraft are high a over the horizon at ground level application. Plus it would possibly explain lights in the sky.
But the above is only a probable & in the real world as possible as an alien life form visiting.

The above is the Russian over the horizon radar from 1980. This is the kind of size & nature of antenna that is required.
Take a look at this wiki page & you will see why a small island will never form part of an over the horizon radar system experiment in a foreign country.

No it's not Rolling Eyes We know the NSA exists and we know the 1980's were firmly rooted in the distrust and mutual monitoring strategies of the Cold War. In the real world, which is a world run on the rules determined by science - there is no solid proof that alien life has ever visited the Earth. Sure, it's possible but it's not probable - there's a big difference.

Looking at the American governments stance that the building (or buildings,) that they had on the Ness was for OTHR (Over The Horizon Radar.) It just makes no sense. As Short Wave Listeners (SWL's) would have logged the signals & especially so then, when so many people were still listening & when numbers stations & anything military in nature was very well known & of interest. And with SWL's all over the UK, anything pumping out, even very very low power on Short Wave would have been logged within minutes of switch on.
At the time books like the confidential frequency guide was available & everything from embassy frequencies to Concords phone frequencies were becoming readily available & Clandestine station enthusiasts had their own groups to share such information.

If the NSA were there, maybe they were there for reasons of national security that we may never find out about?.

D B Sweeney, do you not believe it was possible that something happened there - not necessarily alien or UFO related, but maybe some sort of accident or something secretive?

It's certainly possible Cactus but the evidence pointing to aliens UFO's is dubious so maybe some kind of cover up was fabricated to hide the real events of those nights.
