If you live in a cold climate, look around you now. Just one botanical holds its color and remains green against the stark winter landscape: the evergreen tree. To our ancestors, the evergreen tree was a powerful testament that life does persist - even in the dead of winter. With that belief, came to assurance that human life would persist, too. There was a time when survival of children, the sickly, elderly and livestock was a real concern during winter. People really needed to belief that life could and would go on... So pine trees were brought into the homes and decorated.
