Really good read.
I am trying to research/study the pagan faith, as I have become disillusioned with my Christian faith and have a very strong feeling & respect for nature and the whole Pagan idea.
So any links or books that anyone could recommend would be good |

To be honest I asked exactly the same question when I first started testing the pagan waters, and I found the best route is follow your heart, and talk to others.
There are almost certainly pagan groups near you (if you wish I could ask a few friends if they know any) and they're just as welcoming as any church, and usually very informal. You'll soon find people along similar paths, and will discover whether you wish to travel as a group, or make your own way.
Damara's wiccan, and I'm, well, freelance I s'pose, so between us we can give thoughts on the subject, and I know I speak for both of us when I say we'd be only too pleased to tell you our experiences and beliefs |

Hi Solstice Moon. I've been wondering what the difference is between Pagans and Wiccans. I don't know anything about Wiccans at all. Kev. |

No disrespect YB but this can be kinda releative seeing as we have topics on this forum such as Hitory Of Halloween (A day which is the end of the pagan year), Witches, Astral Projection, Dreams all of which have a strong link to Pagans and Wiccans. Afterall all, I am a White Witch and only so through the means of being Wiccan. I think it could be a healthy topic to discuss seeing as little is known about it and it is also allowing us to learn about other members on the forums
Infact I think it would be great to hear how peoples religious beliefs affect the way they approach or think about the paranormal. I am always open and non judemental |

Hi kev, it's quite simple. A Wiccan is a Pagan, but a Pagan isn't neccessarily a Wiccan.
It's a bit like the difference between a Catholic, and a Christian. The Catholic is Christian, but the Christian isn't neccessarily Catholic.
And YB, sorry about the thread, but if someone asks me a question, I do feel bound to reply. PMs ok, but had I PMd Kev, then stu_wat may never have gotten involved |

Hi everyone. Sorry If I've upset anyone. There's not many places you can talk about these subjects. I was brought up a christian but I've got an open mind on things in general. I worked with a pagan and I was the only person who never poked fun at him because of the way he was. I suppose it was because other people didn't really know what he was about. I remember him saying there was more evidence for his belief then for the rest of us. Kev. |

Recruiting? I was only answering a question about where someone could get further information. It's no different to suggesting someone sees a priest if they have a question about Christianity. |

Hi Solstice Moon. I didn't know this subject was so controversial. This is why I don't have anything to do with religion. As I said I was only brought up as a christian. It's a shame we can't talk about other peoples beliefs as well. Kev. |

No probs Kev, religion's always a subject to raise passions. Even small details can cause wars and bloodshed. |

I must admit I am absolutely disapointed towards reading that word Recruitig. As already mentioned, Nearly all Pagans and Wiccans find their own way to following the belief. Many people who have such passion for nature and believe life exists in many things, believe that our life works around the sun and moon, would not even realise they are pagan or wiccan. I did not realise I was pagan until someone told me that my beliefs resembled the pagan traditions. It is one thing Pagans and Wiccans DONT believe in is recuiting. You dont see us standing on the streets shouting quotes from a bible, You dont see us going around knocking on peoples doors asking them to join us. We dont even have a weekly slot on tv singing 'who knows' praises. BUT when someone does ask what is a Pagan and Wiccan is, we are obliged to answer. We are not evil, we do not worship the devil, we dont sacrifice people and we certainly dont brainwash. In fact one of the major rules of our faith is to HARM YE NONE
However, like I already mentioned when you have other topics on this site titled HALLOWEEN which to pagans and wiccans is a Sabbat we call Samhain, a sabbat which presents us with the opportunity to once more celebrate the cycle of death and rebirth. For many Pagan and Wiccan traditions, Samhain is a time to reconnect with our ancestors, and honor those who have died. This is the time when the veil between our world and the spirit realm is thin, so it's the perfect time of year to make contact with the dead, this is why I feel discussing a belief to be ok. Is this not relevent to talking about ghosts and the paranormal?
You have a thread about witches. Primarily related to witchcraft. Witchcraft has a bad stigma for failure to understand what it is means. people like me who are witches (Myself being a white / hedge witch) I would say it is perfectly fine to discuss. The topics are related.
If i have overstepped a line here then fine please tell me, But i was actually quite excited to hear about YBs story about joing the priesthood and doing exorcisms. If you honestly can say that The paranormal has absolutely nothing to do with any religious beliefs or faiths then I shall make this my last post on this site and I shall walk away. Cos no matter what I feel that my experiences with the paranormal involve what I believe in. |

Solstice Moon and damaralenoire. It was me who asked you the questions so don't feel that it's your faults. Certanly don't walk a way. I think it's an interesting subject, I'm going to look it up on the web now. You certanly havn't tried to recruit me. Someone once said the best way to make somthing popular is to ban it !!! I think I agree. Kev. |
