Actually the photo in question could indeed be "photo shopped" That term applies to early photo manipulation when it was much harder to do but quite possible for developers and photographers in the know. IMO it could be a double exposure or an actual painting with developers fluid. Both of these would yield similar results. There could be many causes for this image hoax or accidental, either way it came out when the fascination with spiritualism, the ocult and spirit photography was in its hay day and it among others helped to define future research and eventualy paved the way for sites like this one.
