At the moment I'm 'wading' through two 'epics' - I've just discovered. They were penned [or, rather typed, by my Mother in her 20s - I won't say how long ago ] They are really good. [Not to mention hilarious, and rather 'naughty' in places. ] With some 'judicious proofing and editing' [by a 'professional writer', I might add], I think they could be published!
