Hello all, my first post here
Whilst looking through my pics on my hard drive I noticed something strange with a pic taken 3 years ago in a church in Frankfurt Germany.
This pic was taken 23/08/2006 at 11.11am
Heres a closer look
This next pic was taken just after the first but with the time stamp of still 11.11am
Just wondering if anyone has seen anything like that on their pics and could maybe explain what it could be?
I have posted these pics on a photography forum with mixed views, some saying yep strange and others saying its a dust bunny or moisture
Me, i'm inbetween feelings! if its dust, surely it wouldn't be so perfectly round? if its moisture on the lens then it would be on the second pic taken in the same minute?
Would love to hear any thoughts you have
Matt
PS. I thought it was pretty cool that it looked like the symbol next to worldofghosts in the address bar!! |

Welcome to the forums
Looks to me like a dust orb, a piece of dust directly in front of the lens causes these with digital cameras. Dust is a general term, it could be pollen or something along those lines. |

Hello Matt and welcome to the forum.
It definitely has a pattern to it doesn't it.
Cool looking "orb" or what ever it is. |

I compared a similar looking orb pattern with a specific type of pollen once, the resemblance was very close, keep in mind that to do a comparison one would have to take the pollen picture out of focus to get an exact resemblance since most dust orbs are out of focus being right in front of the camera lens. |

Hmmm, note how bright the sun is coming through those windows. The light source is almost pointed right at the lens in pic 1. This will produce serious lens flares or in this case bokeh. It's position is also relative to the curvature of the lens. It could be dust but it looks a bit different than dust orbs and closer to flares. It is not seen in the next pic because the angles have changed just enough to negate the effect. Thats all my opinion anyway, in short we would throw it out as flare, my camera guy would kill me if I did'nt :) |

Lens flare would not show up with a pattern on it that resembles other dust orbs. IMO. |

Maybe so, I do think the intense light played a huge part in this though maybe by just lighting the dust? What model camera, ISO and shutter speed was it taken at, that might help a bit. |
