|
|
The Grand Hotel is a famous hotel in Scarborough England. It's 4 towers repersent the 4 seasons of the year, 12 floors for the months of the year, 52 chimneys for the weeks of the year and 365 rooms for the days of the year but one of those 365 rooms is haunted as I went to look round on a school trip once and one of the staff told us this spooky story. The hotel it's self is huge and took a long time to build. It was said that a number of builders were killed when building it but a guest staying in that spooky room was watching the tv one night and the remote went flying across the room. Another night, another guest was staying in that same room and their mobile phone went flying across the room. They have even had people in to check that odd guest room in the hotel. I would not like to stay in that spooky room though. What about you? Bet Flossy would. |

I would stay and hope something happens - but hope it is just a spirit and not a demonic entity |

I too would give it a go and stay.
Of course I would want to know all the exits! |

The only spirits (for me) in that haunted room would be coming out of the mini bar.

True Story: I SEE DEAD PEOPLE
was based on true events at the Grand Hotel Scarborough
I see ghosts all the time, and the Grand Hotel is frightfully busy indeed, both with the living and the dead. From the first night, I knew right away... I could feel it and see it. My first experience was a little while after I entered the bar to meet friends. It was windy on the balcony when I turned suddenly to see a barmaid struggling with glasses at the double doors as I like to call them. She was trying to manage more than she could handle and in doing so dropped one of the glasses, needless to say, it bounced off the concrete just on the outside of the door; this glass not only bounced, but I could see it flex.
This is not uncommon for me, but always signifies their interest in me, which so far up to now (touch wood) has not put me in any danger. I was rather tired after a long journey, when after the cabaret I retired to my room. Room 330A to be precise. I didn't want any breakfast so put the Do Not Disturb sign on the handle believing I could afford myself a bit more rest for the next day ahead. It was 9am next morning when I was rudely awoken with the violent shuddering of my door. Still half dazed I waited for the noise to stop, which it did in due course. About half an hour later I then received a knock on the door by which time I was able to answer. I was going to reproach whom I would meet for half tearing the door off... especially as my door said Do Not Disturb. "Let me assure you Sir that whoever tried your lock had no permission to do so" she said with an air of certainty. "Then who do you suppose had a key to try so persistently as they did to gain entry?" Would this have happened if I had not put the latch on?
The message was clear that I was in for quite a show. That day I went to visit the castle and Anne Bronte's resting place, knowing in my mind that anything might happen, and would. Being in some of Scarborough's most haunted locations didn't help matters at all. I will mention at this point that I put a fair amount of faith in my guide, and I will not elaborate on this matter further. Let's just say I am not afraid when I am in benign company. The day passed quite pleasantly and I even found myself on the Regal Lady in rather windy conditions for not having a coat. That boat has saved many a soul, and, it wasn't time to lose one. There is all the elaboration you need on the matter of what a spiritual guide can do.
The next day I was strangely tired with the need of an afternoon sleep, which seemed the best thing to do under the circumstances, as the weather was more wind and more rain. When I arose I was hungry and decided to go out and dodge the rain for food. The lights in the corridor always played up too when I was about, again such occurrences do not phase me as they might some. The staff in this case as was the first were not to blame. I proceeded to the lift on the third floor and pressed for it to appear, then waited. It arrived where I met a pleasant elderly couple who were on there way to the fifth floor, so I waited with them. We reached the fifth floor and waiting there was a young woman, late twenties, early thirties. It struck me as odd that this couple paid no attention to her, in as far, as they nearly walked straight into her. Odder still was how this young woman was just as oblivious to the couple as they to her. I said to her as she just stood there, "where are you going?" She moved into the lift on being questioned and replied "the ground" and off we went, until...
It stopped for no apparent reason on the third floor, where I had just come from. The third floor was not lit up on the panel, so why should it stop? Okay, I know what you're thinking; this is not so unusual and I wasn't that bothered as what I said next prooves. "Can you believe that? it just stopped, and look there's nobody there!" "I knew that this place was haunted but messing about with lift"... then she spoke saying the words "Yes, that's been happening a lot lately." My mind is ticking over at this point waiting for that defining moment, when I can put my finger on it. We reach the ground floor, and like a gentleman I am waiting while a disabled, elderly couple wait for us to depart. She doesn't move so in haste I make my exit. While i dashed, almost round the corner, I looked back and saw the woman dead still as the couple moved into the lift. The penny dropped with an extremely loud clang! I ran back to the lift, but, I was too late so decided to take the side stairwell. I met with the startled couple on a corridor exhausted, on which floor, I cannot remember. "Sorry if I have frightened you, but.... (getting my breath back) "Was there a young woman in the lift when I got out on the ground? "What woman?" came their reply, and with a shudder of terror, I realised that she had indeed gone to ground. They insisted that I was on my own in the lift and thought it strange that I seemed to be looking at someone who wasn't there.
Addendum:
The basement especially the corridor rooms 1 to 10 are to be avoided. I would certainly not encourage anyone of a sensitive disposition to sleep in those rooms. I believe the female apparition I saw in the lift manifests from that area. There is a lot of negative, dark energy there which is extremely oppressive for any person who possesses weak nerves. The woman reportedly seen on the stairs in red is I believe the same entity in question. I believe guilt may weigh heavily on this spirit, who frequents many areas of this hotel. The source I believe is in one of those rooms. Her hands belong to that of an old lady: a victorian woman who has a gold serpent ring wrapped around her marriage finger. I believe she may need help despite all the ostentatious displays that would make Oscar Wilde's Canterville Ghost proud indeed. |

I've slept in a good few haunted houses and hotels - never seen a thing but that might just be me. I'm not expecting to see ghosts so I don't. I'd spend the night in any haunted hotel room....with Cactus for company - he's fearless

DB | You probably know you would completely crap yourself if you did, and somehow you manage to block it out. I am no expert on such matters. In fact I was just like you once: in the sense, I never saw anything. After my brother died a few years ago... stuff just started to happen.
It messed my head up at first, but you get used to it. |

I think I know myself fairly well and having investigated a number of haunted locations, including several that I stayed in alone I somehow resisted the urge to crap myself when confronted with odd noises, sensations and visual anomalies. I don't 'block' anything out but approach a situation with a rational mind and logic - as well as a good grounding in what causes people to see and experience haunting phenomenon. I'm by no means new to this.

Perhaps someone can explain why have I these experiences? I can walk into a place and go to straight to where alleged paranormal activity has previously been reported. I have no foreknowledge or history to call upon with many of these places. If I visit an old building, I immediately expect it to have some history of the paranormal, but I never expect anything to happen. I can sense when something might happen, and normally I am right in that assumption. Normally these happenings manifest themselves when I am off-guard, and on other occasions, they are more conspicuous. In my recent visit to Scarborough's Grand Hotel, having unpacked and freshened up, I proceeded to the bar. I had only seen a television program which mentioned the Hotel as being Victorian and something about a ball room. I didn't pay particular attention I have to say.
It was only when my friends mentioned they were going for a few days and offered that I should come too, that I decided to book. The reason for this occasion was a birthday celebration and a substantial discount on the cost due to being out of season. Needless to say, on making my way to the bar, (which I knew was at the beach front somewhere) I managed to find myself in the basement. To say I was drawn there would not be entirely appropriate. I would say… I just found myself there. There is not a word I don't think that explains how I get there. To be drawn or enticed even, would suggest some prior knowledge or knowledge that I was being led, and there was none of that. Let's just say I find myself wherever it is: it - being where the paranormal activity is prevalent. Its location being the corridor: rooms 1 to 10. I have subsequently looked at other accounts that guests may or may not have had with little or no success; the most recent account being a story concerning an alleged Spooky Room at the above aforementioned location. Most of the stories I have met with focus their accounts on the basement corridor housing the rooms 1 to 10 and nearby vicinity.
Those accounts I have mentioned relate to the source, and not, the many sightings scattered elsewhere on the premises. This is the only story I have come across which relates to a specific room. All I hope to discover on this matter is what Room the Author alludes to in his anecdote. As for matters that prove or disprove experience or validity on such matters, then it is experience with the paranormal, not a study of it which procures insight. There are no Experts. There are those that experience paranormal activity and those that study it. Those that experience paranormal activity never profess to understand it, yet those who claim to understand it have neither experience nor understand. Parapsychologists make certain assertions based on a study which requires them to be blindfolded in their research. This branch of psychology only exists because those that study it are unable to experience the paranormal and thus stumble about reaching out into the unknown (blindfolded) while those they go in search of remain just out of reach. Doesn't it remind you of a game, and we all know who the laughs are on... don't we? Sorry, but that is my view on parapsychology be it a rather ridiculing one.
I am too, believe it or not, very grounded with all the wisdom and experience that common sense can call upon. Please accept my apology if indeed I got your back up. I can only go on the information before me, and was merely replying lightheartedly to your having "never' seen a thing" and your possible reason which read "but that might just be me." I would happily lay down the challenge of joining you on any location you feel paranormal activity to be in the ascendancy. I have had a tea trolley with plates and all crash on a wall next to me, at such speed I doubt four men could achieve. Remarkable still, the plates and cups were still on the trolley. Shocked indeed I was but not scared. That was my worst experience, that and the fact they never left the biscuits out.

Nobody goes looking for these experiences, my friend. They happen because they just do. Not even the most skeptic cynic, would seek out such an unexpected event, if he knew the cognitive distortion to his so called rational thinking. The truth is, I am scared witless when they become of me; a debilitating paralysis occurs simultaneously the senses are possessed. Expectation is never willing to oblige mystery. There are those attracted to the unknown, and there are those whom the unknown is attracted. |
