Levitation is claimed to be a phenomenon of psychokinesis (PK) in which objects, people, and animals are lifted into the air without any obvious visible means of support. Levitation has been said to have occurred in mediumship, shamanism, trances, mystical rapture, poltergeist hauntings etc. Some cases of levitation appear to be random and uncontrolled - see Enfield, while spiritual or mystical adepts are said to be able to control and produce it at will - see the famous or infamous D D Home levitation.

Several physical mediums claimed to have experienced levitations. It is also easily replicated by stage magicians and illusionists such as David Blaine with his famous street levitation.

One of the most famous physical mediums to accomplish this with supporting photographic evidence is Colin Evans.

The photograph was taken in infra-red light with flash during a
seance in 1938. It shows Evans levitating or does it?.

Not sure if it is just the photo...there seems to be lines at an angle to the right of the man lifted.
Could this be wire or is it the photo?

I would personally be waving a broom handle all around an over the place looking for those wires. Wink

Exactly what is infra red light?
Is it something like night vision? Confused

I think back when this was taken infra-red light was just a red cellulose filter placed over a weak lightbulb - essentially so that audiences and sitters could not see the fakery going on.

IMO Evans is not levitating in this pic. I know exactly what he's doing and it doesn't involved wires Wink
