                                | Why are people hostile towards Derek Acorah? If he was such a fraud then why do all his tours sell out, why do people leave his performances happy, i mean he would have to be very good to read peoples minds in order to tell them what they want to hear

                                | I think that it's only a minority of people that are openly hostile to DA. I've always maintained that he's a great entertainer but a terrible actor. However I can understand the hostility in part. I'm sure the vast majority leave his shows feeling good in much the same way people feel good after seeing a stand up comedian, singer or illusionist but this doesn't validate his claims that he contacts the spirit world unfortunately - that's because he very probably doesn't and in that respect he's not alone since 99.99% of all the other mediums plying their trade from Blackpool Prom to Hackney Empire are probably not contacting the dead either.

He's obviously not reading peoples minds either but simply using well known, well understood techniques such as cold reading, hot reading, audience plants, pre-researching and having regular clients in the crowd who he knows he can fall back on when he's wavering.
There's also the fact that people will overwhelmingly remember the hits but forget the misses and most people in his audience will (and this is very important) want to believe and will already believe in the validity of mediumship.

I quite like DA because he has a warmth and rapport that engages his audience in a positive way - contrast that the someone like Joe Power who really is a nasty piece of
 work.
