Hauntings do not require genuine ghosts with authentic historical backgrounds in order to be seen by the public, they merely require the power of suggestion.
Yes, no or maybe?...

yes definatly, i think people are too quick to say that every little bump or noise through the night are caused by ghosts or spirits
for exsample watching a scary movie before bed can set your imagination rolling into thinking that loose floorboard popping up was actually a ghost walking on it
(which i was guilty of when i was younger lol)
and i think its the same for every where you go, you could be quite comfortable somewhere untill your told its supposedly haunted then your jumping at every little noise lol |

Very true Flossy . Do people who believe in ghosts see more ghosts than sceptics or cynics?.

That's true flossy- If I watch something about hauntings or ghosts just before I go to bed (even now lol) I am on edge and nearly expecting to see something, every little noise etc - funnily enough scary alien films tend to freak me out more before I go to bed but I know that is the reason I am like that, just like I would know that if somewhere has been suggested to be haunted I would know that would be reason I would be edgy.
So to answer the question DB - yes, and no |

Yes I think the power of suggestion is a very powerful tool used to help some (not all) 'haunted' places gain business. If you've not seen it already check out Derren Brown: "investigates the ghost hunter". It's on 40D. I'm a huge Derren Brown fan and think he demonstrates how the power of suggestion is used remarkably well.
I've always had an over active imagination which may be why I believe in ghosts/the idea of there being something more than just the physical being. I also have to be careful what scary films I watch at night (sometimes in the day haha) as some can really freak me out, but by the next day I'm back to thinking logically and realise I'm being silly . I find it very interesting how the dark can alter you perspective and logic on things . |
