Superstition is an old view of being scared of things that one cannot explain. I don't believe in superstition. |

Think of how a superstition got started.. say you walk under a ladder and the guy on it drops a bucket and it hits you on the head. most people would say "oh thats bad luck" but actually it would be common sense not to do it. A black cat crosses your path and a bee stings you.. is it really the cats fault or was it going to happen whether the cat was there or not? If breaking a mirror brought bad luck for 7 years each... then I was doomed a long time ago.. it is all out of fear of the unexplained... As Stevie Wonder said in one of my favorite songs:
Very superstitious, writings on the wall,
Very superstitious, ladders bout to fall,
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin glass
Seven years of bad luck, the good things in your past.
When you believe in things that you dont understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition aint the way
Very superstitious, wash your face and hands,
Rid me of the problem, do all that you can,
Keep me in a daydream, keep me goin strong,
You dont wanna save me, sad is my song.
When you believe in things that you dont understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition aint the way, yeh, yeh.
Very superstitious, nothin more to say,
Very superstitious, the devils on his way,
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin glass,
Seven years of bad luck, good things in your past
When you believe in things that you dont understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition aint the way, no, no, no |

i always thought my dad was superstitous, he pulled us around ladders and warned us about breaking mirrors and even watched out for the types of birds that used to come in our garden but when i asked him if he was he said .no dont be silly its just common sense, if you walk under a ladder you could knock it or something can fall from it and if you break a mirror it leaves shards of glass and tiny shards of metal that are nasty in your feet.......so i said ...but dad why you so annoyed when a black bird or a magpie comes in to the garden......because they are scavengers and they will distroy my plants.
so you see superstition is common sence, or at least most of it is. |

Just to clear up matters, the whole black cat thing is based on early xians believing that every black cat is a witch in disguise or a witch's familiar.
Now of course we know it's just a black cat. Nothing more, nothing less. Most modern day superstitions can be traced back to early xian paranoia. |

Not to be a moron or anything but exactly who where the Xians?
Can you list other superstitions that these Xians have bestowed upon us?
Now I'm trying to think of other superstitions! |
