On June 10, 2010 I was visiting the Little Bighorn Battlefield with old school friends Daryl and Sandy Boots in eastern Montana. I don,t know why my late parents had never brought me here when I was a child and we travelled out to Washington from South Dakota to visit with relatives back in the 1950s, but when my friends offered to stop I readily agreed. One of the rangers was relating the battle involving General Custer and the Lakota Sioux indians very convincingly when I noticed a rather dishevelled but obvious man standing not far away dressed as a scout from that time- June 25, 1876. "That,s a very authentic looking costume"! I commented to my friends. "What-the rangers?" they asked. "No-the fellow standing beside him in scout,s costume!" "Sorry-but there is No person standing next to the ranger!" they replied and when I looked again the "scout" had disappeared completely and I was far too embarrassed to ask anyone else. But I Did see someone dressed as one of Custer,s scouts. Was it a ghost? I think so. |
