|
|
The Schluter Home in Jefferson, Texas was built sometime around 1850 and was finally finished in 1856 predating the Civil War. Mr. & Mrs. Schluter had bought the house previously from Stephen Smith. Being an old planation style house with spacious halls and tall columns it's simply beautiful! I saw it in person for the first time when I visited Jefferson. My family and I actually went on their ghost tour beacuse Jefferson is pretty much a ghost town, with many many stories that inhabit it. I actually took a lot of pictures of this Schluter Home, because it was so beautiful and I wanted to see if I can capture some ghost shots!.
I can hardly remember the story the tour guide shared with us because it was back in 2006, but the story goes that there were several deaths that occured in the home. Between 1859 and 1863 the Schluter family had lost four of their children and there was even a black slave hanged on the premises. I am getting this information from The Best Tales of Texas Ghosts by Docia Schultz Williams (which by the way is a wonderful book) -
So on with the story - The tour guide shared with us about a fire that had broken out in the house in the much earlier days and one of the children was asleep in its crib. The smoke filled room took over and the baby had died. The infants spirit supposedly returned to the nursery so the mother put a doll in the window to keep the baby company. I'm sure there are quite more spirits that inhabit the place. Here are a few pictures I took on my journey to the Schluter home.[/center]
This photo was caputured obviously at night - Kind of spooky looking.
These next few pictures are zoomed in of the windows. I saw a few faces when I first put these on my computer but I could not tell on my camera....I circled them in red, I can clearly see them - I believe there are other faces in the windows but I can't quite make them out.. The top right pane looks like it has a 'doll' in the window...The middle pane looks like a man with an old mustache...and the one adjacent to it looks like a lady (to me)...Hope you enjoy.
The first circled face in this picture is very distinct. You can see a side portrait of the face, with a large nose and hollowed out eyes. The one below it once again looks like a doll, but it kind of looks like E.T. to me...
I hope you enjoyed these, please let me know what you see or your opinion about the story! |

Greetings and welcome to the forums..
When I first seen the house I thought it was a plantation home I saw in South Carolina. The first window pic does kinda look like faces, however, after coping them to my hard drive and playing with them some I feel it is just a trick of the eye, matrixing it is called.
Got any others we could look at? |

Thank you for the insight! I go on another forum (www.ghostvillage.com) and I have posted this same story/photos there. Most people have mentioned the same 'matrixing' thing as you did. I sure will have to look back at my old photos and see if I can find some more! Thanks for you interest! |

Am I crazy or in the main house picture at the top can anyone else see a 'shape' (I like to think its a little girl) in the windows to the left of the upstairs doors? |

Look like someone with their arms crossed.
Is that what you see Twirly? |

Well, I always trust my feelings especially when looking at pictures as I haven't been to the place or felt the atmosphere so I've nothing else to go on. I'd like to believe its a child, a young girl about 12-ish. There's no distinct features that can be seen but from my 'feelings' i get that she is quite lonely maybe thats why she's looking out of the window. Its almost as if she's looking at the camera waiting to get captured.
And yes Bitterbuck I think she may have her arms crossed too. |

Madonna, do you have any history of this home?
I'm not sure if I welcomed you to the forum, so...

Thanks a bunch for the welcome ! The only history I really know is what is posted (the story about the house catching on fire and the child dying from smoke inhalation) other than that I really do not know much more. It's a very beautiful sight and I hope to visit it someday again! |

I just also noticed that if you look in the very bottom right hand corner window it looks like there are all sorts of faces there... but then again it's probably just matrixing. |

Hi,
I also took pictures of this house. The picture you have posted was the side entrance at one time. I took a picture of the same side of the house. When I downloaded the pictures there was a black woman sitting in a rocking chair on the porch. There was also a black woman standing on the stairs with a scarf over her hair , leaning on the rail, talking to the woman in the rocker. There was a little black boy about five years old. He had on a blue cap, coveralls and he was playing with a dog. The woman on the stairs was tall and very large. Strange..we didn't see them, but the picture was very clear. |
